General Aims

The Home School Community Liaison scheme has been in operation in St. Kevin’s College since 1996.

It is a preventative strategy which targets pupils at risk of not reaching their full potential in the education system or leaving school early. Home School aims to promote Partnership between home school and community to ensure pupils fully engage in school life. It takes a whole school approach recognising parents as the primary educators of their children. Remember – children only spend 15% of their time in school.

What’s happening for Parents ?

Parents are supported and encouraged to get involved in school life through a variety of activities –

  • Information Meetings for parents of new First Years
  • Courses and Classes for Parents are offered both in school and in schools in the locality
  • Transfer Programme and Welcome packs
  • Parents’ Council
  • Home Visitation – Co-ordinator calls to visit parents at home. This is very important in establishing bonds of trust between Parents and the school.

Home School Community Liaison also works very closely with the School Completion Programme.
